Here's a tip, buy a second hand 1000D.

On Amazon.co.uk cheapest 1000D body only is £330 and SX20 is £316.
A 20x zoom lens is a Jack of all trades and master of none.

I've already done the math. In order to get the same focal-lengths and
apertures available on the SX20 to come close to the same image quality as
that of the P&S camera you'll have to spend US$6500 in lenses for the DSLR.
