From: JC on 18 Nov 2009 17:34 I've been out of the business since 1988, pushing 75 now, and I'm rejuvinating an old small room pa for a neighborhood youngster to use on his first gig, a Christmas party. I forgot more than I ever knew about all this stuff so I have this question. I'm going to to run a yammerhammer board, shure 58B, an old TAPCO 32 channel EQ, and a really old QSC 150 amp to two really, really, really old randall speakers with nothing but a 12" woofer and a tweeter --- no horn (used to be monitors). So my question is this. The chain. Where does the EQ fit in, before the amp (between the mixer board and the amp) or after the amp (between the amp and the speakers)? Your consideration will be greatly appreciated and handsomely rewarded with the biggest old smile I can muster. Thanks, JC

I'd like to see what the result would be if you connected the amp outs to EQ ins. Just for a laugh. If the mixer has inserts at the main outs, I'd go with that. Otherwise, it goes...mic>mixer>EQ>amp>speaker. -- Steve <snip> McQ

Oh, and just so's you'll know, in case you ever get the urge, before I checked to see if anyone had responded I tried amp, eq, speaker. Well, let's just say it bent the hell out of a couple of needles before I could shut it down. <G> Thanks again for you help.

How the hell did you connect them in that fashion? Is everything 1/4" connectors? There's a reason why pro amps never use 1/4" for speaker outs. To keep the uninformed from doing stuff like you describe. (Among other reasons) -- Steve <snip> McQ
