[Samba] Windows 7 Point and Print
Hello, I'm migrating from Samba 3.0.24 to 3.4.3 to add support for Windows 7 on my print server. I've kept the smb.conf essentially the same, changing only the directives corresponding to Kerberos authentication as changed in the 3.4 series. Please see http://pastebin.com/m9c0409 Note that the LPRng backe... 9 Nov 2009 17:45

[Samba] Samba 3.4.2 and Active Directory auth
I am trying to setup 2 workstations installed with Fedora 11 and samba 3.4.2. One is x86_64 and the other is i686 and I have the same issue with both. Neither machine will allow domain users from AD (Server 2003 R2) to authenticate. I have successfully send up samba on multiple CentOS 5.4 servers but they are still on ... 9 Nov 2009 14:24
Windows XP joining Samba 3 PDC: SAM Response - user unknown
OK - fixed that one. The problem was a too long netbios name. Adding the following line to the smb.conf fixed the problem: netbios name = dc Seems Windows only sends the machine name within its logon request if the netbios name of the domain controller does not exceed a specific length (16 chars?). I got... 9 Nov 2009 12:11
Samba + LDAP error in windows xp while ACL
Did this use to work OK? It sounds like samba is not properly mapping YOURDOMAIN\username in Windows to the underlying unix account. Do you create the unix accounts first or does samba automatically create them? Either way, I think your LDAP entry for each user should include the unix uid number as well as th... 17 Nov 2009 00:40

[Samba] Optimizing Samba to stream movies
I am sharing some of my personal videos on a local network via Ubuntu 9.10/Samba 3.42 on my wired PC to wireless Windows XP and Vista users with a 802.11g router in between. Some of the movies can stream fast enough to watch uninterrupted, while others seem to skip often. I searched online to see any optimization... 6 Nov 2009 01:37
Error connecting WinXP client to Samba PDC: DNS name does not exist / RCODE_NAME_ERROR
Do you have NBT (netbios over tcp) disabled in XP? That would prevent it joining an "NT4" type domain. Is nmbd running on your samba server? SRV DNS records shd only be relevant for Active Domain DC's. It wouldn't hurt to add it to your DNS server. On 11/05/09 10:24, Christian Geiger wrote: ... 9 Nov 2009 12:11
