[Samba] vfs module Samba 3.5.1 We installed the Samba 3.5.1 rpms for OpenSuSE 10.2 from ftp.sernet.de. The VFS modules seem to be broken. Is this an error in the packaging or do I need to be looking else where. A snippet from the log file follows: <extracted from log> [2010/03/12 19:58:59, 0, pid=28792, effective(0, 0), real(0, 0)]... 12 Mar 2010 22:53
[Samba] Null sid enumeration I'm needing to prevent null sid enumeration for pci reasons. It's a samba pdc that authenticates against an openldap backend. I restrict anonymous set to 1 but I'm still able to pull sid's using cain. I've set it to 2, but as you might expect, no one could login via windows. On the ldap end, I restricted sambaSID attri... 12 Mar 2010 18:26
3.3 and 3.4 compile failure on dbwrap After talking with a programmer here, we were able to figure out the problem. lib/dbwrap.c was using "fetch" and "store" in functions which were colliding with previously defined macros with the same names. We were able to resolve the issue by undefining the macros after the include lines in dbwrap.c: #undef fe... 12 Mar 2010 17:19

[Samba] gid to sid question I am very curious as to why this happens, as it makes us worry a bit when checking the winbind logs. We are using winbind to do sid -> uid/gid mappings with the hash idmap backend. We are using samba 3.4.5. What we see is: when we login and do run "id" we get what we should see (uid=<number>,gid=<number>,groups=<... 12 Mar 2010 12:47

[Samba] DNS updates fail Hi We are trying to live without DHCP hardcodings, but it has proved to be hard. When the IP address has changed, running 'net ads dns register' just says "DNS update failed!" even when using domain admin creds. And rejoining the domain updates forward dns but not the reverse. Is this a bug or a featu... 12 Mar 2010 06:07
3.4.6 slow access to shares [SOLVED] Hello I finally found the problem which was not located on the samba server but on the LDAP server which is our backend. The machine had a hardware problem ( a LOT of disk write errors ) I changed the LDAP machine, then samba is now running like a charm :-) On 03/10/10 10:47, Richard Lamboj wrote: ... 12 Mar 2010 06:07

failed to execute child process Sounds more like a corrupted dpkg than a Samba issue. I think you will need to determine what's broken there before you can fix the Samba install.
