Acer Nplify
Hi, any experiences here with Acer Nplify wireless? Is it easy to get set up and running or something that needs 3 days of trickery and possibly more. Acer Laptops look and seem quite nicely specced for my purposes, but I'ld like to clear this up before I commit. There is not a lot of information available ... 13 Apr 2010 16:11
Dell desktops
Hi all, I'm thinking of ordering a Dell N-Series pc, like maybe an optiplex 380. I believe they come installed with ubuntu, I would think I could install Slackware easily. Anyone have any experience with these? Seems like it should be no problem. Thanks, Julie ... 30 Mar 2010 09:23
incremental backup
I'm running 13.0 on my workstation, and making a backup plan (following some hints in Running Linux (O'Reilly)). For daily incremental backups, I tested the following command: # output full path for all files modified in the last 24 hours find / -mtime -1 \! -type d -print > /tmp/filelist.daily To my ... 31 Mar 2010 06:31

Open GL clash, desktop effects and applications using Open GL
Slack 13.0. Any ideas? If I enable Desktop effects in kde then all open gl apps I have tried crash the machine - locking me out and forcing me to reboot. Pete -- http://www.petezilla.co.uk ... 4 Apr 2010 15:56

Using current kernel in stable.
Hi, I installed Slackware 13 (64 bit) into an Asus UL30A. As reported here: http://www.xs4all.nl/~zwh/home-page/asus/asus-ul30a-linux.html the driver ATL1C - for Atheros AR8132 Ethernet adapter - in kernel 2.6.29-6 seems to freeze the adapter. Then I have to upgrade to the kernel 2.6.32-rc8 or a newer... 30 Mar 2010 12:43
success!
I finally got this computer (Acer Aspire AX1301-U1312) to boot into something besides Windows. First I verified that the computer was willing to boot off a USB stick. There wasn't anything on the stick to boot but at least the computer tried. Next I found a little utility on the internet - kinda like a RAWRITE ... 25 Mar 2010 21:59
Hard drives not staying asleep: simple fix
After upgrading an old system to 13.0, the drives that should sleep most of the day suddenly stayed "active/idle" all the time; "hdparm -y|-Y" was useless. Found out it's udev. The simple fix was: cp /lib/udev/rules.d/60-persistent-storage.rules /etc/udev/rules.d/ Edit 1 line near the end in /etc/udev/rules.d... 26 Mar 2010 03:34
Firefox v3.6.2 Available
Firefox v3.6.2 is out. Official Slackware packages will probably be out soon, but I just built it for myself and the process is trivially easy to do on your own. The slackbuild from -current can now be used without modification or fixups. Steps: 1. Download the slackbuild source files (use a slackware mirror)... 24 Mar 2010 11:08
