Correct - I already use windows defender to block as many start up
programmes as possible tp speed up the boot process.

I'll try blocking a few more, then I'll try syinternals

I'm having the same issue this person is having at boot up "Windows failed to
start successfully due to a software or hardware issue". I get the options
of "Safe Mode", "Safe Mode with Networking", "Safe Mode with Command Prompt",
"Last known successful login", or "Start Windows Normally". None of these
work. When I put my recovery disc in that came with the Laptop (Toshiba), it
won't run the disc/recognize it. Any suggestions? I'm at a loss.

From: Db on
if you can't boot up
windows with any
of the options,

then you will need
to boot up with an
xp cd.

you can borrow any
xp cd and boot with
it.

to ensure your machine
boots the cd and not
the hard drive,

you will need to go into
the bios and change the
boot up option from the
disk to cd.

then save and exit the
machine.

then with the xp cd
in the drive, it will boot
you to a setup screen.

select repair to launch
the recovery console.

then run fixboot and
check disk at the disk
prompt.
