It seems to be there:

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 61952 2005-09-04 09:30 /usr/lib/win32/acelpdec.ax

Hum. Which version of mplayer are you running (you can get the info by
running mplayer with no options)? Where did you get it from?

I am beginning to suspect either: (1) You have an older version of
mplayer or (2) Some libraries weren't installed on the system when it
was compiled.

I'm pretty sure it has to do with the x86_64-ness of the OP's system. I
get a message in xine to the effect that wmv9 is not supported, and it
turns out that the Win32 codecs are not compatible with the 64bit OS.

I read that it was possible to get it working by "running mplayer in a
32bit chroot jail" but I don't know how significant a task that is.

I have the same problem. I can see any video in mplayer or kaffeine, but
nothing from CNN.

There I am told that I should have Windows Media Player 9 or above.

My systems is 32 bit Suse 10 and others and I will rather let CNN be
than start using what they want. That's for sure.

Strange, clicking "Continue to Video" crashes my Konqueror, but clicking
"Remind Me Later" works and the videos will play. However YMMV since my
mplayer is from cvs dated Oct. 11, 2005 and my Konqueror is from KDE 3.5
beta 2.
