Apple contribute code to WebKit (which is used by Safari, but also by Konqueror) so yes, it's possible that Apple-written code will end up in KDE. And of course they bought CUPS. None of this is a problem IMHO provided the GPL is respected. If Microsoft wanted to contribute code to the Linux kernel under GPL... why not? Actually several industry commentators* are saying that buying up a Linux distribution would be a good move (from Microsoft's POV) to give them a credible mobile product... * of course we all know that 95% of what IT industry commentators write, and predict will happen, turns out to be nonsense :) > For me it was disconcerting as I am very Anti-Apple > and their business practices <soapbox off> I run openSUSE on a Macbook. I'd rather pay OSX tax than Windows tax. I wouldn't buy an iPhone or iPad, they are locked down devices intended for the delivery of paid content - but provided Macs remain capable of running non-Apple OSes they should not be ruled out of consideration. > Things do look different visually, however. So someone decided to change the default theme a bit and you think it looks more "Apple-like". I don't think it does. Anyway if you don't like that theme, choose a different one. Ubuntu has gone as far as moving the maximise/minimise/close buttons to the left of the window title bar in the default theme, and making them look *very* like OSX. Nothing to do with Apple, though. There's Windows XP-like themes for KDE. And I happen to think that Windows 7's appearance is definitely 'inspired' by KDE... -- Ulick Magee Free software and free formats for free information for free people. Claws is email. That is like using a browser > to read Usenet. Possible, but wrong. I'll try again. It's not wrong, because Claws is designed to be used as a newsreader client. The programmers (or BA's) wrote use cases to address newsreader functionality and the programmers wrote code to satisfy those requirements. Just because it's not a "single purpose" application, doesn't mean it's "wrong" to use as a newsreader :) From the "Features" page: Usenet news reading and posting -- One seldom sees a monument to a committee. <<< Remove YOURSHOES to email me >>> |
