Driving large numbers of relays
I am a microprocessor programmer specializing in the Zilog Z8 family. In the past I have done several boards for controlling high speed processes. I like the Z8 because of its large number of registers and on chip features. My current project will use the Z8F6421. I am working on a board that will control green... 2 Feb 2010 16:20

LEDs as photo diodes
Hi seb! I used LEDs experimentally as photo diodes, yielding up to 1,4V with green LEDs when near a 60W incandescent light bulb. Right now I put 10 LEDs in series to get higher voltages, but the voltages don't add?! All I get is a voltage similar to the individual voltages - up to about 400 mV with yellow LEDs. ... 2 Feb 2010 16:21

Low Power Satellite Based Laser / Imaging System Could Easily Track Activity Disturbing Cheap Reflecting Fibers
Shine a 4 milliwatt 645 nm wavelength dollar store pet laser onto a red reflector lens at night and it explodes into color. Slender reflective fibers would easily reflect a relatively low power satellite based laser a couple hundred miles back to the satellite and show up on satellite imaging. A very weak magnet... 5 Feb 2010 18:26
Discussing audio amplifier design -- BJT, discrete
I'd like to take a crack at thinking through a design of an audio amplifier made up of discrete BJTs and other discrete parts as an educational process. I imagine this will be broken up into three sections; input transconductance, transimpedance VAS, and output driver. But other arrangements (such as combining ... 2 Mar 2010 20:23
Watch replacemnt (button) batteries?
Have just replaced watch button battery from a package of five bought yesterday. The replacement cells are SR60W 1.55 volts. (Diam 6.8mm, depth 2.15mm.) Measured the removed battery (several years old now) open circuit, using a high input impedance DMM, at 1.486v. Doesn't seem that low? But that's off-load and ... 2 Feb 2010 16:20
