Use 14.4V NiCad battery through a L7812 regulator?
I need to power three Cree XLamp XRE LEDs. The standard sealed lead acid battery is 12 V, but it is heavier than I would like to carry. I have some spare rechargeable 14.4 V DeWalt tool batteries. The L7812 regulator says it needs at least 14.5 V. will a 14.4 V NiCad tool battery be acceptable for that? Th... 10 Dec 2009 07:54

photons and reflection
According to the wave theory of light, angle of incidence equals angle of reflection. No problem, in theory or fact. However, per QM, light falls as a 'rain' of photons. What happens then? As I understand it (big qualifier there), the photons are absorbed by surface atoms. Electrons jump to higher energy orbi... 13 Dec 2009 00:21
Question about common-collector circuits.
I remember reading a long time ago (I think it was a magazine article) a cautionary note about operating a common-collector BJT with the collector tied directly to the power supply rail. It recommended inserting a resistor between the collector and Vcc. What I don't remember is the reason given. The only thing ... 27 Nov 2009 21:08
anti spam technique?
If you click on several of those spam clothes ads, they all have a similar 'looknfeel' with a live help window floating around. I've send a couple of messages back telling them that its futile to expect to get customers from a newsgroup that has been flooded with spam. A couple of them actually responded live and s... 2 Dec 2009 21:12
