i think mysql migration toolkit is multy platform. there could be mysql scripts to allow you this possibility. Base might not help ypu that much since is more a sql problem than a gui one. Document saving problem
You cannot open .pdf files using OOo. Adobe is the most common software for opening pdf's. You should be able to open .odt using OOo as well as .doc formatted files.
