need to replace battery- do I need to write down everything insys. setup?
On 7/29/2010 12:53 PM, Timothy Daniels wrote: Assuming that you're talking about the lithium "coin" battery that powers the ROM while the PC is shut down, the capacitors *should* keep enough voltage on the ROM to give you enough time to remove the old battery and insert the new one. But if the capacitor(s)... 1 Aug 2010 22:27
Inspiron E1505 RAM upgrade
I have an E1505, need to do a memory upgrade, and everywhere I look it says that 2 GB is max. Is this correct? I have Win 7 Pro on it, and it works pretty well, but I just installed the cheapest Dragon EasySpeaking, and it looks like it will run better with more RAM (I think I have 1 GB now). I'd like to try 4 G... 1 Aug 2010 11:34
Dell 1564 new install
Some time ago I tried to swap out a hard drive that had a XP install from a dell 1405 into this dell 1564. It booted up to a point and stopped. Does anyone know exactly why and how to make it work? When it stopped, I think it stopped prior to the OS. Is there a bios setting that needs changing? Further... 29 Jul 2010 12:57
need to replace battery- do I need to write down everything in sys. setup?
Gee, my 8 year old Dell is finally losing its battery. I now get a warning when booting up- (forgot to write it down exactly) warning about battery failure. So, I bought a new battery- but I just noticed that the manual says I need to write down everything in Setup. Is that really necessary? One friend suggeste... 1 Aug 2010 15:54
will 9.5mm height drive fit in Dell 1564 laptop ?
I'm hunting around for answers but meanwhile does anyone know if a 9.5mm drive will fit inside the dell 1564 laptop? One source seem to indicate this is thicker (greater height) than the standard laptop drive. I'm also trying to find out what is the std height on a laptop drive of recent vintage. ... 2 Aug 2010 13:38
Backup software
What is the best backup software for full images? Will it work on Win7 32 bit and Win 7 64 bit? (I still have not decided which way to go.) THanks, -- Andrew Hall (Now reading Usenet in alt.sys.pc-clone.dell...) ... 5 Aug 2010 21:22
Latitude On Reader?
This is a free option on the system I am thinking of getting for my son. In order to get OS media with the system I am ordering it with the XP downgrade --- which means XP will be installed but we will get the Win 7 DVD. If I get the Latitude On Reader, will it survive a clean install of Win 7? If not, is ... 28 Jul 2010 21:45

64-Bit Win 7? Pitfalls?
I am thinking of getting a Dell Latitude 6510 for my son's college computer. Would there be any serious downside to buying a student version of Win 7 64 bit? Are drives a problem with the 64 bit OSs? Would I be able to get the needed post install drivers from Dell? Would it be a problem for printer driver... 29 Jul 2010 15:10
Windows Updates to Avoid (with Dell systems or otherwise)
I reinstalled Windows XP Pro with SP3 (Dell Edition) on the first of four refurb Dimension 8300's I am selling. Then I went to Windows update to apply the many megabytes of updates. I chose not to un-check IE 8 from among the 70+ initial updates. I also selected Windows Updates' version of the driver for an ... 28 Jul 2010 15:08
