brute force attacks
I've seen this question pop up in this group here and there, but I'm not sure there's ever been an answer that's satisfied me. If someone wants to use, say, telnet or ftpd, is there a good way to thwart brute force attacks? It would be nice if either of those programs had a lockout feature, or something like ... 3 Jan 2010 11:36
FBSD 8.10 And VirtualBox 3.1
I have a machine running Win/XP Pro SP3 hosting VirtualBox 3.1. The hardware happily boots the Ubuntu amd64 CDROM natively and FreeBSD 8.0 also boots fine - well ... up to the point where it has to ID the hard drive, but that's another story. IOW, the hardware is 64-bit capable (It is an Intel mobo w/a Pentium-... 19 Dec 2009 12:42

FreeBSD 8 and Winbind via pam_krb5
I'm not sure how many of you use FreeBSD in Windows enterprises, but those that do are likely frustrated with the current support for Samba's winbind on this platform. The biggest problems revolve around Kerberos library compatibility problems and PAM module bugs. After much tearing of the hair and gnashing of th... 20 Dec 2009 03:52

MSI Wind U90 and 8.0.
Hello. I am actually new to FreeBSD but it seems it worth studying it rather than GNU/Linux full of many different distros. (Even though Debian and other are sometimes well made what I can't say about Ubuntu 9.10.) And wish to ask - just in case... had anyone tried FreeBSD on MSI Wind U90? Low chances anyon... 2 Dec 2009 15:31

building a file server with zfs for personal use - recommenations?
Hi, Now that FreeBSD 8.0 is out, I am thinking about building me a new file server at home. In general, thiss will be a small PC type box, and it will only be a file server, no other duties. I am thinking: - amd64 - 2 to 4 GB RAM - 3 physical hard drives for the system drive and the storage pool. Quest... 18 Dec 2009 01:50
