Release 8.1 No Hard Drive Boot (solved)
I did a new installation of FreeBSD 8.1 Release on an Intel Atom D510M0 motherboard. The AMD64 install went normally, but the computer would not boot from the hard drive. All of the hardware components were new for this installation (motherboard, memory, dvd, hard disk). This motherboard only has 2 SATA ports an... 13 Aug 2010 09:12

IPV6
I've got a /48 block of IPV6 addresses. Any recommendations on how to assign addresses or anywhere to read up on recommendations? I'm thinking of using the top byte of my ipv4 block as the top two bytes of my block and then using the bottom ipv4 byte as my bottom two ipv6 bytes for each machine. -- Regards -... 11 Aug 2010 07:05

If I do a stop (darkstat stop) from within /usr/local/etc/rc.d it does write the data file and picks it up when I start it again. Shutdown is running the rc.d script, I've added a df just to make sure the filesystems are still m... 13 Aug 2010 07:02

8.1 and wi(4) with wlan
I have a number of old Lucent Orinoco 802.11b "wi" cards. These have always been super reliable, and have seen me though releases of FreeBSD from 4.X to 7.X. So far, I am unable to get them to work in FreeBSD 8.1. When I insert the card in the PCMCIA slot, it is correctly identified as "wi0". Then I can creat... 9 Aug 2010 01:26
What fs should I use on my new server?
I'm setting up a new server running 8.1. It's a reasonably fast used HP box with dual CPU, 12G of RAM, and six U320 15Krpm 72G disks. It sits in a data center and does a mix of mail and web stuff with the usual programs, apache and mysql for the web, netqmail+mailfront and dovecot for mail with a lot of glue and ... 11 Aug 2010 02:47

I have a Quadtech DSC-100 PCI dual serial port that I want to try to use with 8.0R i383. The kernel sees the card, but does not attach a driver.
