MPT Timeouts on FreeBSD 8.0 VM
Hello, I'm running a number of FreeBSD VMs on an ESX cluster using an MD3000i (Dell iSCSI SAN) for storage. Most of the time these systems all work fine, however periodically our automated monitoring system reports one or two of the hosts inaccessible for a brief period 5-10 minutes). This usually occurs in the... 11 May 2010 17:55
Installing Open Office / Perl updating
So I'm a newbie to FreeBSD, we all have to start somewhere. I'm trying to install Open Office into KDE. I got a link via: http://forums.freebsd.org/showthread.php?t=11580 to an OO package. However it fails out when trying to install. The first item is Perl, of which it wants a newer version installed. This is w... 15 May 2010 04:01
Failed opal3 build
Yesterday there was another commit of Ekiga3, which I was trying to build (on 8-STABLE, i386). One of its dependencies is opal, whose build failed as follows: Stop in /usr/ports/net/opal3. xw4400# grep SAFE_ZRTP Makefile ..if !defined(SAFE_ZRTP) IGNORE= please build devel/libzrtpcpp WITHOUT ports SSL and re-run... 5 May 2010 23:48

Samba 4 configuration
That's what was installed during setup. Why not try it? The first question is, where is samba.conf (or maybe it's smb4.conf), because I can't find it. From Freshports, this remark: "Default configuration file was moved to ${LOCALBASE}/etc/smb4.conf to avoid conflicts with the installed net/samba3" So where mig... 1 May 2010 00:04
PHP-5.3.2
I run into this problem now and again and, because it's infrequent, never remember how to resolve it. Briefly, after installing php5.3.2 on i386, each and every time I attempt to run the PHP CLI I get a core dump. System logs show only an exit on signal 11 and a core dump. As well, because of the core dump, I ... 26 Apr 2010 23:57
encrypted filesystems under FreeBSD
Hello, For sometime now, I've been using encfs (a FUSE module) to manage my encrypted files. It works on both Linux and FreeBSD rather well. However, it happened twice in recent times that encfs was killed on an assert[1]. Those crashes were the first ones after a long usage, and I couldn't reproduce it since.... 25 Apr 2010 04:24
'make installworld' in multi-user mode?
