Mergemaster SOURCEDIR
The directory containing the sources is supposed to be specified by the -m switch if it is not /usr/src. But is it? $ cd /usr/src $ ls 8 cddl release COPYRIGHT contrib rescue LOCKS crypto sbin This is part of it: it is recursive in the sense that, if I switch to 8 (the sources that were downloade... 20 Apr 2010 16:01
Firefox 3.6 and Java
The UPDATE file for the ports collection has a note dated 2 Feb saying that the Firefox port is now version 3.6, but Java doesn't work so if you want Java stay with 3.5. It's been two more months and I see we're now up to version 3.6.3_1. Anyone know if Java works with 3.6 yet? R's, John ... 20 Apr 2010 18:29
local IMAP server - which one?
I would like to keep a backup copy of one of my IMAP mail accounts. And it must be as easy to use as the online one. :-) It was suggested that I set up a local imap server on my machine, and then use imapsync[1] to "backup" the online imap account to an account on my local imap server. This way I can use my no... 2 May 2010 21:57
Mergemaster -U option
Although I have not seen anyone recommend it, the U switch used with mergemaster is supposed to replace all config files that have not been hand-tweaked with the new version automatically. The saving in effort could be considerable. I'm wondering if anyone who has done this would recommend it? It's probably a good ... 19 Apr 2010 01:12
The mergemaster mess
I discovered the solution to a problem I mentioned earlier, Webcam access to specific applications. A developer patched the 8-STABLE kernel for this purpose, but I am using 8-RELEASE, which doesn't work. I was able to carry out this upgrade, but since I didn't have the slightest idea as to how to use mergemaster,... 16 Apr 2010 13:58

Rebuilding the kernel for PPS support
Hi. In at the deep end, total noob is me. FreeBSD V8.0. I'm trying to follow the instructions at:- http://blog.doylenet.net/?p=145 Due to my ISP's ineptitude, I could only download the "Boot" cd ISO immage, and have had to create this thing letting it download what it needed via FTP from one of the UK ... 16 Apr 2010 06:10
Machine reset & weird memory usage pattern
I built a freeNAS (0.7.x) for someone recently and it seems to have been running fine since I installed it over a month ago. I just got to the stage where I'd stopped worrying about it as it had 20 days uptime since the last reboot when, out of nowhere, it seems to have spontaneously rebooted itself in the middle o... 14 Apr 2010 20:03
