tv card not detected; new motherboard
greetings! I am at a loss. I just bought an Intel dp43bfl mainboard with the intention of running Debian and maybe OpenSuse on it. I have an old Hauppauge WinTV card (pci) that has done faithful service in all the computers I've had since purchasing it. I can vouch the tv card works fine - another system, simila... 21 May 2010 09:29

How much security risk do I have from wordpress (Ubuntu)
I have been generally averse to running PHP based software on my websites due to security concerns. I used mod_perl and wrote most of the stuff myself (algebra.com). This is not a jab at PHP, by the way. I think that there is relatively little wrong with PHP (I do not want to get nitpicky), except that there ar... 14 May 2010 23:44
New functional language - Fling
Hi I've written a little functional language just as a toy for me to play around with. kudzu and renaming of network files
I figured one of the reasons I've still not been able to get the right order of my eth cards is kudzu. It seems to insist on repacing my modprobe.conf and ifcfg-eth0 etc. with its own versions and rename mine with a .bak suffix. Anyone else face this issue? Can I safely disable kudzu? If not, is there a way ar... 12 May 2010 18:05
Simple line-printing program
I was wondering if there exists a simple solution for printing text from the console. A program that emulates a line-printer on CUPS or a pseudo- driver which creates a line-printer device so that text files can be printed easily from the shell. I'm thinking something along the lines of: $ someprogram > /dev/em... 12 May 2010 01:34
