LINKSYS BEFSR41
I bought a BEFSR41 maybe 4 years ago. It worked great for my ex-wife and I. Awhile later, we decided to move my computer downstairs, and leave hers upstairs. We switched to a wireless router because she didn't want me to run the wires between floors. I still have that BEFSR41, but unfortunately, my ex-wife lo... 4 Dec 2006 02:11
Frustrated: Promise Controller won't work on motherboard
I got myself a new 80 pin cable. I went to remove the old cable and I seen that the pin on the motherboard IDE slot had bent. I tried to bend it back but in the process I broke the pin so now that IDE slot is dead. I took my [working] Promise PCI IDE Ultra UDMA 100 controller from another spare computer. The c... 12 Dec 2006 23:48
Please advise on new build (Core 2 Duo/P965)
I'm putting together a new system, only the third I've done. Most of the time this PC will be used for the 'net, MS Office, and other pretty undemanding tasks. It's still got to be powerful enough to smoothly play an occasional FPS, edit home videos, and work as a PVR with MCE. I'm hoping that all the comp... 15 Dec 2006 01:09
screen
I am building a computer and was just wondering, should I buy a television screen or a monitor? The main reason I am worried is that I am going to use the same screen for my computer and xbox 360 which support 1080p. While I was looking at newegg.com I noticed that they do not list whether their monitors support 10... 25 Nov 2006 17:43
Question about adding Ram
I have an nforce2 Shuttle an35n-ultra motherboard. Currently, I have 2, 256mb of pc3200 running in dual channel (I think it's slots 0 and 2 on the motherboard). My question. If I choose to add another 512mb of ram to the empty slot, will it automatically remove the dual channel? ... 17 Nov 2006 22:40
Energy efficient socket 478 chip?
I want to make a low-power (energy efficient) pc. The motherboard I've already got is socket 478. What's the lowest power chip I can put in there? And how low power is it. Also, I'm told the 478 celeron m doesn't fit in a desktop socket 478, only laptop? the pin arrangement is different, I'm told... is that... 17 Nov 2006 19:32
Random Reboots of PC
My homebuilt PC has been running fine for approx five years but just recently has started rebooting itself at random intervals. Sometimes it will stay up for two weeks without rebooting but other times it won't even manage to complete the boot up process (following an unexpected reboot) before it reboots again. N... 17 Nov 2006 05:10

Using an External Battery for a UPS -- Belkin 1100VA
I have a Belkin 1100VA UPS that has served me very well for approx. three years. It is still serving me well, but I'm sure the gel cell inside is not holding a charge like it used to. I recently remembered that I have a small "lawn and garden" type 12V wet cell laying around, its probably a 15-20Ah battery. Would i... 8 Nov 2006 21:55
