Do they need to be modified to accept a standard 220 volt supply ?

No. If you have a 220V supply for a 1541-II, that will work fine.

The drives have a round DIN connector on the back for the power input.
These connectors are the same as you would find on a 1541-II.

(Interesting enough, the power supplies also say they work on the "1571-II"

Hi,

Note that itspossible to connect an ATX (pc) power supply to the 1581
drive.
Its original power supply feeds the drive with 5v and 12v ...

Thanks ... E-bay gives a 'slightly' warmer feeling of safety .. not
much mind but a little :-)
