iPhone
Having just got back from hols with an iPhone holder in our party, I've decided the time has come. Couple of questions: I figure PAYG is cheaper by about 200 for me over the two years of a contract, including the cost of year 2 wireless. Is this 200 likely to result in hassle/loss of features? If I get a ... 26 Feb 2010 04:10
Grey bands on 24" iMac display
I bought my 24" iMac last April and it has developed faint grey soft- edged horizontal bands about two or three inches apart across the screen. I noticed it a while ago and now it's annoying me. Any ideas as to what might have caused this (or indeed might still be causing it)? It was a John Lewis purchase so no pro... 19 Feb 2010 01:08

Should a Bootcamping Mini WOL?
Hi All, I'm trying to get my Mac Mini to Wake On Lan. I can send a Magic Packet to it via several sources and everything else wakes up ok when I send one to them. The default OS is XP and I have checked all the settings in that for WOL are correct. I can't see anything in the Bootcamp panel (under XP). S... 17 Feb 2010 00:34
Wireless Mouse Battery Levels
I start getting reports of low mouse battery levels when the indicated battery level is just below 30%. By the time the battery level is down to ~20%, the low battery level warnings become more frantic and the bluetooth icon starts flashing continuously. I really don't think I need to change the mouse batterie... 14 Feb 2010 05:14
Anyone built a universal libsdl?
Am trying to build libsdl to be a universal binary. I run: sh build-scripts/fatbuild.sh ....as suggested, and configure starts going through its paces. It doesn't complete though - says: checking for gcc-4.0 -arch ppc option to accept ISO C89... unsupported I then wrote the time-honoured hello_world.c and c... 17 Feb 2010 00:33
Running my own WebMail server?
Where I work has particularly aggressive web filtering, and I can't access my personal email provider's webmail. (the site's blocked) Is there a way I can host a webmail server on my own iMac (Snow Leopard)? I've got a static IP address at home; I was thinking of something along the lines of simply entering m... 13 Feb 2010 20:33

Yet more 'check for updates' madness: OpenOffice
Tech news sites all over are proclaiming the release of OpenOffice 3.2. I fire up OpenOffice 3.1, and go to 'check for updates'. It checks and...tells me I'm fully up to date. What on earth is the point of writing this stuff if it doesn't actually tell you the truth? Sighing, I then go to 'About...' to see if ... 15 Feb 2010 09:50
