Can't access secure Web pages
This is an odd one. I've got a MacOS X 10.3.9 1.25GHz 2G4 (2003 MDD). It connects to the 'net using ISDN. It's connected to `everything else in the house' via Ethernet. Now, I've turned on Internet Sharing on the 2G4 (and personal Web sharing to permit Web access, as directed). The other two modern Macs we... 4 Oct 2006 17:54
ipod with bad sectors?
my 3G 20GB ipod's acting weird since i formatted it as HFS on a mac - was originally FAT32 from a PC. now, it hangs copying songs over - and I suspect bad sectors. other than doing a disk utility secure erase to (hopefully) mark bad sectors as unusable, has anyone had any success fixing this issue? it would ... 3 Oct 2006 18:03
Type and Creator codes
I was playing around with Super Get Info a couple of days ago and wondered if there is a good reference to type and creator codes and how critical these are in OS X. My understanding is that these attributes were critical to file 'association in pre-OS X days, do they still have a role now? I see that BBEdi... 27 Sep 2006 06:07
...and it's gone again
My 'resurrected' disk lasted less than two days then. This time I'm trying to start up in verbose mode. It gets as far as reporting IOBlueToothPCIController, then dies. I get the following message: disks0s2: 0xe0030005 (UNDEFINED) Load of /sbin/launchd, errno 5, trying /sbin/mach_init disks0s2: 0xe003000... 28 Sep 2006 11:21
Sorting in iTunes 6 vs 7?
Can someone running iTunes 7 answer me a question? I'm running iTunes 6, and I just clicked on an album name and then tried to sort by album. And it jumped back up to the top of the album list (...Nothing But The Sun, from U2-Live, groan). Is this the way things work in iTunes 7 as well? I'm a little scared to... 26 Sep 2006 12:15
Gigabit SATA bare-bones NAS?
Been hunting for gigabit-capable bare-bones NAS with a SATA interface. I've found the Kurubox which looked hopeful, but has normal ATA rather than SATA and reviews also say the gigabit performance might not be as shining as it appears. The Linkstation seems to be what people are going for, but flaming hell ... 28 Sep 2006 16:09
TechTool Deluxe
Greetings. My iMac came today. I have been getting it set up t my liking. I bought the AppleCare program. They sent me a CD with TechTool Deluxe from Micromat. Is the stuff on the cd really worth installing? Thanks. ... 23 Sep 2006 18:34
selfridges.com
Is anyone able to browse selfridges.com? Using Firefox, Safari, Omniweb and Internet Explorer I get what seems to be a subset of what I should be seeing - navigation across the top and a few links down the side. Big blank page otherwise, unless you click one of the side links or the second bar of top links. No ... 25 Sep 2006 11:27
External HDD - FAT32 or HFS?
I can't imagine this drive will be used on any other machines, and I know HFS is journalled so theoretically more tolerant, but is there any benefit in formatting a new external HDD as HFS over FAT32 which is the default? It's for general data storage - ISTR reading something about FAT32 not supporting OS X ... 24 Sep 2006 07:04
Accessing an iPod from Windows
Is it possible to access an HFS+ iPod from Windows in a way that doesn't involve major hacks? I'd like to go around a friend's house and use it as an external drive, but it's unlikely any of my friends will be comfortable with any sort of under-the-hood driver installations. If not, what are the disadvantages o... 22 Sep 2006 18:03
