sick of tapes - good disk-based backup solution for small/medium businesses?
I've had it with tapes and am trying to come up with a good disk-based backup solution for servers (running AD, Exchange, etc.). We currently use Symantec Backup Exec with mostly DLT-V4 drives, previously using Sony AIT. Experiencing too many early tape drive failures, bad tapes, bad tapes ruining drives (!), ... 28 Apr 2010 18:35
looking for USB cable that supplies power "downstream"
I'm looking for a USB cable that supplies power "downstream" and doesn't send power upstream. I have seen many powered hubs that supply downstream and don't specify if they are isolated from the upstream power or in parallel to it. I need a cable with power since I can't get support for many devices if I conn... 2 May 2010 05:31

Recomeneded 2.5" external enclosure?
Hi! I've had some good experience with the Mercury On-The-Go units sold by Other World Computing. They're not as cheap as other things I have seen, but the build quality is quite a bit better. Although OWC caters primarily to the Macintosh user, their drives and enclosures work perfectly well elsewhere. They a... 23 Apr 2010 17:38
Safety of USB "Y" connectors for power?
I've always been leery of storage devices that claim to be 100% USB powered. Most of them having moving parts usually come with a "Y" cable that draws power from USB ports in the expectation of getting 1 amp total, rather than the expense (and possible inconvenience) of providing a separate plug-in power supply. ... 1 May 2010 16:30
BIOS not detecting hard drive
I'm trying to swap a SATA hard drive from a defunct desktop into a working desktop (Sony VAIO VGC-RA840G) that has no hard drive. The defunct computer and its hard drive have been sitting in a basement for about 2 years collecting dust. After installing the drive according to instructions from the Sony website... 23 Apr 2010 23:18

lost USB drive
I have a Seagate USB drive that ran with no errors. I tried to clean it up to make big backup. I deleted the partition and now it does not appear in My Computer. The hardware manager says it is there and enabled. How do I get it back to format and use? Thank you, Seamus J. Wilson ... 24 Apr 2010 01:35
