RAID-0 format
Does anyone know where I can get a detailed description of how a RAID drive is built at a low-level? I mean what is the actual physical distribution of the sectors across the disks, and if there are any special sectors added for RAID-specific information actually on the disk. All I could find by Googling is general... 15 Jan 2007 19:34

Changing Hard Disk Partition Size
Can hard disk Partition sizes be changed after they've been in use without damaging the files stored within the Partition? If you create hard disk Partitions leaving a portion of the disk unallocated and later find that you need more room in one of the Partitions, can its size simply be increased to utilize some ... 14 Jan 2007 20:26
USB drive
I bought a USB thumb drive (Verbatim) with a "privacy zone", thinking it would provide some modest protection for confidential data if the device was lost. However, it seems to require an executable "v-safe 100.exe" to be installed on the hard drive. This seems very odd. Furthermore, I am at a loss to understand ju... 15 Jan 2007 22:40
USB powered extrnal hard drives
Is it widely accepted that USB-powered hard drives are slower than AC-power hard drives? I have a Seagate 100GB External USB 2.0, USB-powered, hard drive which does not seem very fast. That is, even if I plug in the both the USB+Data cable and USB+Power cable and it is just not as fast as an external hard driv... 9 Jan 2007 18:52

1TB hard drive
I thought this might come out in late 2006, but here is the first 1TB drive: <http://www.tech.co.uk/tech/computing/upgrades-and-peripherals/storage/hard-disk-drives-hdd/news/ces-2007-worlds-first-1tb-hard-drive?articleid=1d9680e6a33048d995296d6099075a63> ... 8 Jan 2007 16:31
"Error Occurred(0)" with RAID 0. Dying disk.
I installed 'Intel Matrix Storage Console' version 6.2. It's stating 'Error Occurred' on 'Device Port 0' 'A drive in a RAID 0 volume is failing. Try to back up data immediately.' The '(0)' (I believe) refers to the device number and is not an error code. This is what threw me off. I backed everything u... 8 Jan 2007 12:49
NAS with USB support?
Hi, I know there are many not-so-expensive NAS devices out there to use at home, like f.e. the new Dlink DNS-323. The thing is --and i know the dns-323 doesn't support this-- that i would like to have a usb connection when i'm close to the nas device and (obviously) a LAN connection when i'm in another room. I f... 12 Jan 2007 10:30
Is this a corrupted hard drive ?
Just moved a bunch of large files from my 40 GB main drive (c:) to my 250 GB secondary drive. (d:) After doing that, I went into the D: drive to check the files and all of the folders had names that look like another language when it can't be properly displayed - You know - boxes and symbols, etc. Anyway, I rest... 8 Jan 2007 05:17
