Wierd chkdsk issue I have a weird problem when I run chkdsk /r on a NTFS partition (win XP SP2). I get a the message like: "Windows replaced bad clusters in file 733 of name \FOLDER\FOLDER\FILE.EXT." My hard drive crapped the big one It totally stopped working and it made a moderately loud klunking noise every few seconds. Anybody know what that noise is exactly? help please I have a dell laptop which i wanted to reinstall the operating system on, so i copied all my personal files including email etc onto some sony rewritable cd's. 5 1/4" floppy drive question I have a lot of 5 1/4" floppy disks I would like to copy to CD-R. These are mostly Quickbasic and PDS 7.1 libraries and source code and such, and are not generally around any more. This PC any good for... Question for those in the UK really... A relative has been offered a new PC by a local store. She's keen to purchase from them as they provide good local support. Windows install from USB drive I want to reinstall Windows xp on my wifes laptop but the cd drive is bust. I was wondering if it is possible to copy the installation disks to a portable usb hard drive and boot her computer using a usb flash drive and then do the install off the portable drive? Bad Hard drive or doing something wrong? I bought a used Seagate Medallist 8641 St38641A 8 GB hard drive on ebay. I installed it in a Compaq Presario 5204 desktop machine. Partitioned it with Seagate's latest edition of Disc Wizard on two floppies made from a download from their site. Recover NTFS file system from a RAID 1 ATA disk I had a RAID 1 system which has failed. I don't want to buy new RAID hardware so my problem is to recover my files from the harddisk. I have tried by means of FindPart where all seemed to work fine apart from the fact that all the files copied have a non valid format. SCSI drive corruption Hi, I have an Atlas II 15K 147 gig SCSI drive on an Adaptec controller. I keep getting corrupt mft's and volumes when I add more than 50 or so files to the drive.
