From OP: Having Only Actual Typing Area Show. Hello, Thanks for help. Nope. Did what you suggested. The full 12" or so of white area, per the ruler, still shows. I want to always have my documents set up in the normal, typical manner: The paper size is 8.5x11 The margins are all around 1" When I make the ruler visible, I see that the white typing area (seems to)extends to over 12". Word 2003 running in Windows 7 -- Open Dialog Small When I run Word 2003 on my new Windows 7 laptop, the "open" files dialog box is much smaller (not full screen, only allowing very small preview, not allowing my places on side, etc) than in Word 2003 on my XP desktop.
