Hidden Bios Settings
I've got a Award Bios 6.00 PG and I want to enable AGP Fast Write. However it is hidden in CMOS setup. Besides flashing the BIOS with a new image, is there a program that allows you to directly modify the CMOS? Also, is it worth it to enable AGP FW anyway? I heard you must keep it disabled to overclock the grap... 11 Feb 2006 16:40
Specification of SDRAM chip
Hello. I'm looking for description SDRAM memory chip: 16X8Y3VTW-SS. It's important for me because it's question of cheating. I googled some links to that chip but it was only symbol not specification. Maybe somebody could decipher that symbol (size is the most important, I suspect 16Mb x 8 but I'm not good in elec... 10 Feb 2006 12:38
Bad Memory or bad PSU ?
Hi ! I'm working on a friend's HP Pavilion 511N system which showed signs on failure in the last few days (Windows restarting itself at any time, not booting at all, so on..). The first thing I made was to clone the HDD on another one (using TrueImage - bootable CD) then perform a chkdsk on the drive. Chk... 10 Feb 2006 18:54
Unable to access bios?
The hard drive in my neighbors eMachines PC (etower 466id) recently died. I was going to replace it for him, but before doing that I wanted to look at the bios settings. For some reason though, I am unable to access the bios. Although the eMachines logo appears when the machine is first turned on, hitting the... 14 Feb 2006 17:34

Corrupt NTFS Filesystem
Almost every time I reboot my Win2K/SP4 system, CHKDSK runs because Win2K detected a "corrupt ntfs filesystem" on the boot disk. Every once in a while I get a BSOD instead, in which case I have to move the bad disk to D: and run CHKDSK manually from inside Win2K. In both instances CHKDSK fixes the problem(s) and ... 18 Feb 2006 23:05
NTFS for DOS
I was recently in a position where I had to copy a file to an NTFS partition and I didn't have access to Recovery Console. I did find a very useful program called NTFSforDOS. It copies additional software to a Windows9x boot disk so that it can mount NTFS drives. I found it very useful when I thought I didn't ha... 20 Feb 2006 23:00
Mouse posessed
Dell Inspiron 4000 laptop with WinME. Mouse cursor has started moving (slowly) across the screen on its own. We normally use the PC with an external mouse, but the problem is the same with or without it. We have 'googled' and found mention of mobile phones interfering and mouse mats being at fault, but moving t... 18 Feb 2006 23:36

Disk Repair Utility
I usually repartition/reformat my hard disks with Win2K Disk Manager periodically to "clean them up", a holdover from the good old days of SpinRight, etc. I realize that modern HDs are capable of limited self repair but I wonder how good that repair process is compared to a sector-by-sector sweep and mark-bad pr... 18 Feb 2006 23:05
