Shutdown and Memory Mapped Files
Hi I'm unsure of something so want to pick the brains of anyone who might have some further knowledge. In an app that has a memory mapped file loaded, if it updates some mapped pages and then does nothing else, then if I kill the app (e.g. with task manager) the modified pages are written to disk, that is... 17 Feb 2010 16:46
VSS Fails on InitializeForBackup.
Hi, Trying some basic VSS stuff from VS 2008 Studio and it doesn't seem to want to work on this Vista x32 Ultimate machine, yet I can run the backup tool in Vista and says it's creating a volume shadow copy just fine. Here's the basic part of the program: ------------- CoInitializeEx(NULL, COINIT_APARTME... 18 Feb 2010 09:27
WaitForSingleObject() and Process termination,...
Hi, i faced a interesting situation: I am waiting inside a thread for a process to exit on WaitForSingleObject(). The process exits, the handle gets signaled and then i immediatelly call to a CreateToolhelp32Snapshot(...) with TH32CS_SNAPPROCESS and the process is is still listed in the snapshot. How come? ... 18 Feb 2010 19:36
How to get notification when a new process is started
Hi all, I want to write a program that performs some action if any of a user-specified list of programs are running. Rather than periodically testing to see if any of the user-specified programs are running, I'd like to ask Windows to give me a notification when a process is created so that I can simply che... 17 Feb 2010 00:20
Determining how many instances of an app are running
I have a Win32 MFC MDI app and from within that app I would like to determine how many instances of that app are currently running. What I really need to know is whether this is the only instance of the application running. Is there a way to establish that? ... 17 Feb 2010 09:57

Clue about Usenet
> Why are you crossing posting this? Because it's a discussion that's appropriate to those newsgroups. Clue: This is not the first time in history that the subject of what thread runs after a new thread/process has been created has been discussed on Usenet. More clue: Think about where those prior dis... 15 Feb 2010 02:10
