Pithhelmet says it installed, but it didn't!
I am having this unusual experience with Pithhelmet. I got the latest version for my Imac (intel, 10.6). I went through the installation steps and the process ended with the installer announcing the sw was installed successfully. Except that it wasn't: there is no trace of PH anywhere. I tired several times, same r... 1 Jul 2010 18:56
another major Snow Leopard gaff
Just found out tonight that SL won't allow a user to password protect a folder except by creating a disk image. While this doesn't appear to be a major problem, it certainly would be a lot easier to just do password protection, like in, uh, Windoze. This is another area where Windoze has Apple beat. Apparently,... 30 Jun 2010 17:35

rsync and scp to my website suddenly don't work
Before I start pointing fingers I thought I'd ask here. Yesterday I found that scp and rsync to my website don't work anymore. I do have ssh access to the website, but it's hosted elsewhere. Specifically: scp -p MySshAccount:backups/* . and scp x.txt MySshAccount:somedir both fail, chucking me bac... 30 Jun 2010 09:45
Difference between VNC and Screen Sharing
Between my Mac and Xserve, I use the "screen sharing" application which is hidden away in the /System/Library/CoreServices. But between the same Mac and my old G2 (10.4 Tiger), I need to use Chicken of the VNC to connect to it. Is this normal ? If so, what protocol does ScreenSharing use ? (obviously, Chicken ... 30 Jun 2010 01:05
Reading dll files on a MAc
I had a bunch of x-rays done for my cat and the veterinarian returned a cd containing a bunch of files with a .dll suffix and a file with an ..exe suffix, which presumably is a Windows program. The Finder says each .dll file is a "Windows dynamic link library". How can I read these ..dll files on my Mac? Tha... 1 Jul 2010 23:20

Backing Up to an External Drive
Hello, After reading posts here concerning backing up my system, I have decided to purchase an external drive to backup my whole hard drive rather than just copying selected folders on to thumb drives. Some of the external drives that I am looking at state that "mac users may have to reformat the drive befo... 1 Jul 2010 23:20
Parallels and Windows 7
Which Windows 7 avoids KMS and goes to microsoft.com to activate? Do any? I have recently installed Parallels Desktop 5 along with Windows 7 Enterprise on two new Mac minis. When Parallels prompted for it, I installed Windows and after entering the multi-activation key (MAK) when prompted, all seemed well. That... 28 Jun 2010 22:45
