Lesson on smilies?
Does anyone know of a link to a convincing explanation of why emoticons are sometimes useful/necessary? I thought I remembered reading one recently (actually I thought on ucsm) but I can't find it. ... 20 Dec 2005 05:15
MacUnlimited
Is anyone using MacUnlimited having problems accessing email at the moment. Eudora was refusing to connect to the server so I tried mail2web which did via something called 'mx-1.netaccessgroup.net'. Stuck this into Eudora as the mail server and can access my email again. Anyone know what is going on? Alec ... 3 Dec 2005 02:28
Government gateway ??
I used this a year or so back to file tax returns, so I know my code works. So I thought I would try the pensions website (www.thepensionservice.gov.uk) which has a pension forecast service. I tried Safari 2.whatever under Tiger first, and it failed due to an apparent Javascript error. Next I tried IE, and w... 29 Nov 2005 05:34
what is the ip address
of my Belkin F5D7330 ethernet wireless bridge? This is connected to my Cube and works well. Out of the box it has a default ip of 192.168.2.225. There is a simple web based interface for set up via a browser. Easy. But when DHCP is enabled, the cube now has an ip of 192.168.2.3 and I have lost access to the bri... 2 Dec 2005 04:38
Does the new video iPod just play Qucktime?
Does the new video iPod just play quicktime, or avis, mpegs, etc, too? I'm keen to get one, but if it's Quicktime only, it's basically useless, as I could care less about music video downloads. Cheers, Zugzwang http://www.viceboxx.com ... 18 Nov 2005 03:48

According to my daughter, Limewire is the best thing since sliced bread, and will allow her to enter the nirvana of file sharing. Will it infest my Mac with lots of nasty spyware stuff, or can I go ahead and install it with confidence? G; ... 18 Oct 2005 18:17
maps.google.com
I don't know exactly what Google Maps displays as its image, but I do know that whatever it is it doesn't seem possible to copy the image. What is it, and how does the browser display it? Can Explorer for Windows copy it, by any chance? Daniele ... 13 Oct 2005 15:09
moving iTunes music folder
I've got my iTunes music folder on the internal HD of the Mac mini, but I want to put it on the new external drive. Is it as straightforward as drag-n-drop, and telling iTunes where it is, or do I have to do something else? And if you share your iTunes music with another user on the same Mac, can they use it... 7 Oct 2005 17:06
Extending WiFi
I've got a Netgear DG834G whose wireless signal is not reaching the far end of the house. I'm presuming that the best solution is to run an ethernet cable to a remote "base station", rather than situate the remote one half way. The Airport Express is very neat, but I've read comments online that its signal isn't... 2 Oct 2005 10:22
Zip Drive problem
Having a bit of trouble with a USB Zip Drive which seems reluctant to eject disks. Message 'The disk is in use and cannot be ejected. Try quitting applications and try again'. As far as I can see nothing is running and the only way to eject is by restarting. I've not loaded any Iomega software but the Zip shows up ... 28 Sep 2005 18:38
