mount weirdness
Does mount ignore the entry for / in /etc/fstab, leaving whatever the kernel was booted with as /, but when you run `mount' tell you what's in fstab rather than what's really mounted? I just had a bit of an adventure after upgrading the kernel on my HTPC, which runs Debian unstable. It used to have / on /dev/hda5... 29 Mar 2007 04:30
Setup backup
Folks, I have moved to Ubuntu from eComstation which, like other versions of OS/2, has a very handy system archive facility. This saves the current set of drivers and settings for just about everything, allowing them to be restored later if, for example, some system tinkering goes wrong. Is there a similar ... 25 Mar 2007 13:50
DNS, DHCP and classes
I look after a network at a nearby school which includes a SuSE 9.3 system providing basic services, including DHCP and DNS. I have a few problems or, more correctly, "irritations" where something I would like to do doesn't seem to work. The system has three NICs with networks 10/24, 192.168/24 and 192.168/20. ... 30 Mar 2007 11:35

Creating a MacOS bootable disc under Linux
Hi, Is there a way I can create a bootable Mac OS X.3 disc from dmg images under Linux? I've tried using ISOMagic under Win32, but it doesn't produce anything bootable and I really need to get my Mac running again (and it must have OS X on it for a commercial project which uses Mono). sshd with built-in blacklist?
We have one machine (a gateway) with sshd open to the world. It's getting hammered by s'kiddies trying to break in. Is there a version of sshd which will auto-blacklist any IP after, say, five consecutive login failures? A version that would locate the offending IP and send a tacnuke would be even more desira... 14 Apr 2007 14:28

Linux hosting
I'm looking to move our church website off my ADSL box, it's getting too much traffic to keep it here. Ideally I'm looking for hosting on a Linux box, with PHP and MySQL, the site's based on PostNuke. I'd need about 1Gb of storage and I'm currently seeing about 5Gb/month of traffic. Ta. ... 23 Mar 2007 15:42
