The Close University (part 2)
As you may know, the Open University now obliges its tutors - who work from home - to have MS Windows computers to use its eTMA (Tutor-Marked Assignment) system. Linux, Macintosh and other users have the choice of acquiring Windows or leaving the job, unless they can persude the university to provide them with a... 24 Feb 2007 19:07

Hey. Take a look at all the great features below and imagine! You'll LOVE it. Take a look, I know you'll love it as much as I do. They offer some of the best premium newsgroup access anywhere. Screenshot, email to user, all from crontab
Darren wrote: I want to monitor a website by taking a periodic snapshot of how that website would look like on a typical popular graphical web browser, eg. IE. And mailing it to some address as an attachment. All from crontab. Is it possible to do this automatically from crontab ? Not sure, but... 19 Feb 2007 19:54

Questions about VMware
I am thinking of using free VMware-server to run WinXP on Mdv2007. Do I need to install anything other than the VMware-server rpm to start with ? Or should I get the tarball & compile it on my machine ? I gather that once VMware is installed, I can create a virtual machine and then install WinXP in that machine. ... 19 Feb 2007 15:43

I have Firefox 2.0 installed using a script which someone suggested. On dapper drake. I can now access Firefox 2 from the Icon on the top start bar. However, my problem is everytime the system wants to update, it wants to revert to 1.5. How do I get rid of this? My possible solution was that I was thinking of cha... 20 Feb 2007 07:18
Another VM Ware question
A local hosting this week were "giving away" some of their old equipment on the proviso you made a donation to their chosen charity so I went along and grabbed an oldish U1 rack mountable server case. Not knowing the company even existed despite being local to me, I had a chat with them and found out their core... 19 Feb 2007 08:54
Relocating the .ICEauthority (Debian/GNOME)
I'd like (probably for very bad reasons) to relocate the .ICEauthority file when a GNOME login is underway. This is to allow mounting of $HOME over sshfs (I said it was a bad reason). I can't get it to relocate. I tried ICEAUTHORITY environment variable, and editing some random setting in /etc/gdm/gdm.conf for th... 28 Feb 2007 10:32
Natwest access gone again
Hullo, Is it just me or has Natwest Online banking gone back to blocking non-windows browsers? Won't let me on with FF or Opera (unless I spoof as IE). Yet FF on Windows is allowed. You can't even access the "info about supported browsers" page cos it doesn't work. This is 2007, not 1997, for the love ... 20 Feb 2007 14:20
Linux services for non-Linux users
I wonder whether the assembled multitude here can help me. I'm looking for a way to introduce people at work to Linux. What I need is a service that I can run on a server that will deliver a Linux service over VNC or something similar running on Windows clients. What I would want to do is put up a server somewh... 20 Feb 2007 03:40
