alsaplayer daemon control (was: Re: sound sample rate issue: alsa/jack(ubuntu 9.04))

Best hardware probing live-distro?
I've just bought an Acer Aspire Revo R3610 "net-top" computer (at only 160!) with Linpus Linux preinstalled. Unfortunately, it's only driving my 1920x1080 Asus VH242H monitor at a resolution of 1024x768, and offers no higher resolution, despite being connected by HDMI. I'll replace Linpus with another distro, bu... 4 Dec 2009 12:53

Crash/reboot at boot.
I've just upgraded my kernel and now my machine won't boot, it does the POST, I get the GRUB kernel selection screen, select one of two (both the same version, but one is a diagnostic boot - whatever that means). The screen clears, displays "Uncompressing kernel image" and then the machine re-boots. The kerne... 26 Oct 2009 21:14
Debian Etch-->Lenny upgrade, stuck in a loop
I finally decided that I'd upgrade to Lenny. I changed my sources.list from etch to stable, ran apt-get update and then apt-get dist-upgrade. I don't know where this loop starts, but here's the loop in which I'm stuck: The installation of a 2.6 kernel _could_ ask you to install a new libc first, this is NOT a bu... 29 Oct 2009 20:59
